Day at the Thompson Ranch

Last weekend all us kids ventured out to Gregg's house, my father-in-law's to visit with Grandma Thompson and Aunt Leslie. We ate hamburgers and hotdogs, played ultimate frizbee and caught up on each others lives. We had a great time. Here are some pics to share the fun.

Bear Lake

This is being posted a week late, but I have been a little busy with the new job so I hope you all can forgive me. :-) Every year we have a Thompson-Patane reunion. The Patane's are long family friends of Landon and his family. Landon's best friend is a Patane and Brittney, my sister-in-law married a Patane. So, needless to say they have been considered family for quite a few years and now have officially become family in a way. Usually, the reunion would be held at Landon's grandparents cabin at Bear Lake, but they were having some problems with it this year. So, the Patane's were nice enough to rent a condo at Ideal Beach (once known as Sweet Water). This just happens to be a place that I would come and stay with my family every year since I was about 7. We all had a great time. We spent most our time at the beach. The Patane's rented a boat for two of the days and bought a tube so we kept ourselves busy out on the water. Landon and I both got a little too much sun, but it was well worth it. We hope we can keep this tradition going for many more years to come. :-)

First Day

Today was my first day at my new job. It was good. I think I was expecting it to me a bit more intimidating and a bit more undesirable, but overall it wasn't all that bad. It will take some getting used to just like any other job, but I think if I apply myself in the position I can gain some good knowledge on the company and eventually move up. I will be working mostly mid shifts, which will be really nice. The mid shift is from 11-7:30. Eleven isn't too early and 7:30 isn't too late. I will have time to sleep in, do pilates, eat breakfast and relax for a minute before heading into work. Then when I get off it will still be light out until winter time so I won't even notice how late I'm there. I will be working Fridays and Saturdays, but at least I get Sundays off. :-) My two days off will be Sunday and one day in the middle of the week. They are supposed to be hiring another Greeter so when they do I will have Sundays and two days off during the week. This may not be what I want to do for the rest of my life, but it gives me a good jump start into something with a lot of potential.

Random Facts

Random #1: One of mine and Landon's favorite things to do is to drive around and look at older homes to get ideas for our dream house we'll build some day.

Random #2: I have a weird fetish about my pillows. I don't like anyone or anything to touch them except me, not even Landon.

Random #3: Both Landon and I have this moto......If you go into the ocean there will be a shark and you will die. Needless to say we are both pretty dang terrified of the ocean, me just water in general. We didn't even get in the ocean once on our honeymoon in Mexico.

Random #4: Some of my friends still refer to Landon as the Toner Boy, most of you should know why. ;-)

Random #5: I love Math and am very bad at it. Landon hates it and is very good at it. Those are the odds.

Random #6: Whenever we tell Moose to get in his kennel he will sit where he is and just look at us. Then when we go over to him to drag him to his kennel he falls over like he's playing dead and will go completely limp so it's impossible to move him. We have now discovered that he does that only because he needs a hug before bed time. :-) Meanwhile, Mia is waiting patiently in her kennel. They are so different it's hilarious.

Random #7: When we first got married Landon would have these crazy dreams that would wake him up in the middle of the night and make him talk in his sleep. Mostly they were about snakes or spiders. He would jump to the end of the bed nearly giving me a heartache saying, "that is a huge spider/snake!" I would then calm him down, tell him there is no spider/snake and that he is acting crazy. lol He still does it sometimes, but not nearly as often.

Random #8: I would someday like to be the author of a life altering book. I'd settle for something as effective as Twilight has been.

A New Start

I am not longer unemployed! :-) I have been out of work since last Friday and I have felt like this job hunting has been more work than what I was doing at my last job. I thought I would have at least one day to enjoy myself, but every day was filled with errands and job searching. I suppose the hard work paid off because today I got a job. Landon had asked the manager in the Riverdale store if they were hiring and they had a position open for a greeter. Since a greeter is usually considered a temporary position I had to interview with Adecco. They are a temp agency and Verizon is one of their clients. So this morning, bright and early, I went and interviewed at Adecco. They are quite extensive on the amount of information they need from you so I spent all day running around getting everything they needed. I had to go take a drug test and they have to do a back ground check. I guess Verizon really wants top of the line employees working for them. So, the way this Adecco thing works is that I really will be employeed by Adecco for my grace period, which happens to end on August 31. After the grace period is over Verizon will decide if they still want me as their greeter. If they do I will still be paid from Adecco and will still be technically employed by them. If I decide that I want to further my status in the company and excel to a higher position I can apply for the job, like Customer Service, and then I will be an actual employee of Verizon. I may do that after Christmas. If I am a Verizon employee I will get the same great benefits that landon gets including school reinbursement, which means I may be able to go back to school. :-) I really am very excited, but I am also a little nervous. This will be completely different from what I have been doing and so I will be out of my comfort zone. And I have been used to working with all girls and now I will be surrounded by testosterone. It's a bit intimidating, but I was very impressed with the manager and his professionalism today and the other people seemed nice so I'm sure everything will be fine. I will tell you that over this past week I have realized how glad I am to not be in the title biz anymore. I am ready to take on this new experience and show them what this tough gal can do. :-) Wish me luck!

Happy 4th of July!

We had a really fun 4th of July. Since Debbie is moving this week this was our last year to have such easy access to the K-town parade. Her condo that she is moving out of sits right on Main Street in Kaysville so we have had the luxury of getting front row seats to the parade. We did the usual. The Patane's came over to Deb's and brought their weapons, water guns, to carry on the tradition that they have had going for about 5 years. We fill up big buckets and garbage bins full of water to keep our water guns filled with amo. We even drag the hose out to the street so that when the water part of the parade comes we are ready to fight! Kaysville has a really awesone parade. The best part though is the water section. They have fire trucks and gutter cleaner trucks filled with water drive by and drench all of us. In turn we have all our water guns in hand and fight back. This year our water fight was put to a quick stop when a little boy was run over by a truck trailer about 5 feet in front of us. I am sure that most of you have heard about it on the news. Most of us from the party were on the news before the accident, showing off our water gun skills and then after the poor little boy's accident. Landon saw the whole thing happen. A ten year old boy was walking next to a truck trailer filled with about 30 kids and big bins full of water when his foot got caught underneath the back left tire of the trailer. He fell on his stomach as the trailer continued to go over the boy's leg and up to his pelvis. In that split second that Landon and Tom saw this happen they pull ran over to the trailer and lifted the trailer before it went any further on top of the boy. The driver of the truck didn't notice that that little boy was being drug underneath the trailer so some of the guys from our group ran up to his window and started pounding on it to get him to stop. As he was stopping the boys were lifting the trailer off the boy and one of our friends pulled him out. If they wouldn't have had the miracle amount of strength they had to lift that trailer up the little boy could have been run over completely. They saved his life. It's amazing how Lord has a way of putting people in certain places and certain times to be able to help someone in need. And even more than that, to lend his hand in their brute strength to lift this extremely heavy trailer without a problem. The boy was life flighted to the hospital and was in stable condition by the end of the day. Needless to say the parade was pretty much over after that big event. We continued our night with eating some grub, stopping by the K-town carnival at Davis High and ending the night was the firework show. Overall we had a great 4th of July. We saved a life, ate good food, had fun with family, and watched beautiful fireworks.

Playing Dress Up

I am sure that Landon will kill me for putting this post on here with even just one of these pictures, but I couldn't resist. A few nights ago we were over at Landon's mom's house helping her get packed up for her big move this week. Brittney was going through a few of her old dance costumes and came across a pretty little blue number. Landon decided to take this tiny blue costume and squeeze himself into it. He apparently has a love for dancing that all of us were unaware of. Haha! Here are some pictures to share this joyful event. Enjoy!
